*Juniors off to a winning start*
Ballyhaunis B 2-09 Garrymore B 4-11
Garrymore Juniors recorded their first win of the season with a comprehensive victory over Ballyhaunis B on Sunday. Garrymore got off to an explosive start with a goal from corner forward Michael Connolly straight from the throw-in. Things were to get even better for the away side as Connolly again got in behind the Ballyhaunis defence and slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net, with that Garrymore found themselves leading 2-1 to 0-00 after 2 minutes of play. The game settled down after this point with Garrymore and Ballyhaunis trading points and with 5 minutes to go in the first half David Reilly found himself one on one with the Ballyhaunis keeper and duly converted to leave Garrymore 3-3 to 0-3 going into injury time. There was quite a few minutes of injury time played at the end the first half and it was to Ballyhaunis’s advantage with them scoring 1-1 with the whistle approaching. Just before referee Jon Finn was about to blow for half time Garrymore wing back Anthong Jordan popped up with an excellent point to leave six between the sides at half time, Garrymore 3-4 Ballyhaunis 1-4. The second half started at nearly the same pace as the first with this time Ballyhaunis converting a free after two minutes but three minutes later Full forward David Reilly took a shot that flew across the goal and was deflected into the into the Ballyhaunis net by a Ballyhaunis defender. That sparked a mini revival from Ballyhaunis who dominated possession for a lengthy period and scored 1-3 without reply leaving them trailing 4-5 to 2-8 with seven minutes to go. Jimmy King stopped the rot with a fine point from the right wing to push Garrymore further ahead. Two more points from Michael Fallon and Anthony Killeen pushed Garry’s lead out to six points again approaching stoppage time. At this point Garrymore got to grip with the game again and started to push people forward and only for a lot of wayward shooting they could have won this game by a lot more. Fallon and Sean Golden added two further points to Garrymore tally in injury time, giving them a 8 point winning margin on a scoreline of 4-11 to 2-09.
