Please can you forward to all units.
The GAA Property insurance has performed poorly over the past 2 years where losses paid by Insurers are in excess of €4million against a premium paid of €2million. Against this background renewal was extremely difficult to secure this year without premium increase and increase in policy excess.
The majority of losses over the past 2 years arose from burst pipes/escape of water with many units failing to take adequate precautions to protect their property during adverse weather and/or periods of unoccupancy such as the closed winter season.
The excess in respect of losses arising from burst pipes/escape of water has increased as follows;
Excess for first burst pipes/escape of water loss is increased from €4,000 to €15,000 Excess for units who have had a burst pipe/escape of water claim since Jan 2010 is increased from €4,000 to €25,000
In recognition of the hardship this increase in excess will place on clubs and affiliated units Central Council has made funding available for units who suffer a first loss to offset the increase in excess. Where an affiliated unit puts in the place insurers recommended freeze prevention guidelines and/or best practice weather risk management procedure as attached and can produce evidence to document these controls were put in place Central Council will fund €11,000 towards the increased excess in respect of burst pipes / escape of water and the excess to the club will remain at €4000.
Units who do not take precautions to protect their properties will incur the increased excess of €15,000.
The excess in respect of all other losses remains unchanged at €4,000 all losses increased to €25,000 in respect of flood losses.
