Westport Bord Na nÓg

The presentation night of Westport Bord Na nÓg took place on Friday the 2nd of January in the Wyatt Hotel. The main presentation on the night was to the Westport U-14 team who won the West Mayo A championship and the County u-14 division 1 league title.

Chairman Austie Groden welcomed the large attendance and paid tribute to the lads and the management team of Paul McLoughlin, Tony Varley, Tommy Walsh David Blean and Brenden O Malley. Speciel guests on the night were Cathaoirleach of Westport Town Council Cllr. Martin Keane and Mayo senior footballer Andy Moran. Both guests gave very good encouraging speeches and told the lads to keep up the good work at training.

U-14 manager Paul McLoughlin congratulated the lads and thanked them for their hard work throughout the year. He spoke about the West final in which Westport defeated Breaffy on a scoreline of Westport 3-17 Breaffy 2-00 with all the Westport scores on that evening comming from play. Paul called up each player one by one and they were presented with their medels by Cllr. Martain Keane and Andy Moran.

There was also a presentation for young player of the year, the winner of the Cathal Higgins memoral for 2008 was David Heraty. David gave his all throughout the year and his dedication to football was brilliant and he also won a West Mayo Junior B medal this year.
