Westport GAA under 14 A team claimed more silverware when defeating Castlebar in the West final played in Kilmeena. The weather conditions made it very difficult for the players and it turned out to be a game of two halves. Castlebar playing with the strong breeze clocked up a goal and six points in the first half while Westport failed to trouble the umpires. Wesports defence of Padraic Murphy, Alan Masterson, Stephen Keating were solid in the opening half and provided great cover for the goalkeeper Tommy Scahill. Clever kicks outs to Joe Grady,Cillian Heaney, Ethan McEvilly and Aaron Cannon.restricted Castlebar in the scoring.The halftime score was Westport no score to Castlebar a goal and six points.
 The first score of the second half was crucial and Westport Cillian Heaney hit a point followed by his first goal from the penalty spot.Conaill Muldoon and Ray Walsh were now winning a lot of ball at midfield. With John Grady, Liam Horgan, Sam Walsh, Alex Hastings moving the ball into the danger zone Conor Calvey and Cillian Heaney were scoring the goals and points to push Westport further ahead.Aaron Cannon scored a goal to increase Westports soal count. Castlebar did reply with late goals in the second half. A brillant save by Tommy Scahill from a penalty was followed by points from Conaill Muldoon and Sam Walsh.The final score was  Westport 5 goals and eight points to Castlebar 3 goals and seven points.This was another great day for Westport GAA. John Gibbons from the West Mayo GAA board presented the cup to Alan Masterson captain of the Westport team.The Westport management team was Manager Martin Calvey and his selectros were Timmy Kennedy and Paul McLoughlin.
