Westport won a pulsating West Final against Islandeady at Breaffy
on Friday evening last.

Islandeady got off to the better start and were well on top in
the early exchanges.
They had a goal and two points to Westport’s two points
after 15 minutes, Westport’s two points coming from
Colm Moran and Sean Brogan.

Sean Brogan then struck for a goal to level the match.
They exchanged three points apiece and went in at
half time level, 1-5 each.

Westport came out with more purpose in the second
half. After the introduction of Oisin McLoughlin (1 pt)
and Ciaran McGovern (a goal), they helped gather loose ball
around the middle and with Ronan Geraghty, who
scored five points in total, took the game to Islandeady.
Patrick O’Malley, the Westport goalie, kicked a great
45 to stretch their lead.

Westport had to weather the storm late on as
Islandeady poured forward in search of a goal
but Westport’s two corner backs Ronan Higgins
and Niall McMenamon hovered up all of what
came in and Westport held out for a memorable
