Westport Ladies Awards Presentation 2012

The Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel was the setting for this years award presentations for Westport Ladies GAA. The Night was opened by Vinnie Burke MC by greeting the guests on the night which included Martin Keane Westport Town Council and Anne Murphy Principal SHS, Claire Egan Mayo Senior Ladies Captain, Michael Conroy and Aidan O Shea Mayo Senior Players 2012

,

The Opening Speech came from Liam Hastings Westport Ladies Chairman. He started by saying how he had been out of action for a number of weeks due to a back operation and that he was inspired how the club had continued moving forward and organising the awards night in his absence. He payed great thanks to club secretary Noreen Lally who he said had gone above her post over the last few weeks and over the year to help the club in any way possible. He commented on how it is great to see that a club is not dependent on one member to keep it working or moving forward, and that every member pulls in when they are called upon. Noreen Lally was then presented a gift on behave of the club for her great work and comittment over the year. Liam then continued by congratulating the girls on a great year. The girls brought home 5 cups, 2 shields and represented Mayo in Féile 2012 in Laois/Offaly. There were also 3 finals contested at under 16 and Minor Level that didnt end up in wins, but this shows that the girls are always pushing forward and doing thier best and next year we will be bringing home those cups. Anne Murphy was presented a bouquet of flowers and thanked for her cooperation over the year in allowing underage girls train on the SHS Pitch, and if the ladies club didnt have the use of the facilities in the SHS it would have been very difficult for the managers to find training time.

,

Martin Keane then spoke about the Managers and how good it is to see people give up thier free time to go out and help these girls play football and be apart of a team. He continued, it is great to see the girls training and playing at the GAA pitch and enjoying it so much and knowing that they are part of a team.

,

Our County Representatives Claire, Michael and Aidan then presented the girls with thier awards for 2012. 23 Girls from the Westport Ladies Club represented Mayo at varies age levels and were presented with a special award from the clubs two county senior players Noirin Moran ans Mary Duffy.
