Féile Girls 2012

Under 14 Feile Girls from Westport did us proud!, , On Friday 22nd of June last was a new chapter in Westport ladies football. The ladies U14 team left Westport at 7am and travelled to the Laois/Offaly Féile with the Division 1 cup under their belt.   This being their second consecutive year qualifying the girls were really excited to be taking part in this All Ireland event representing their club and county. Their standard of football remained consistently high as was the case throughout the county league. We werent sure what to expect  against Sarsfields Kildare, our host club, who  were our first opponents, this match started  at 2pm. Westport were fast on the ball, midfielders Sarah Lavelle and captain Ciara Moran were quick to assert their football skills, while our goalie Aoibheann Lally  and backline remained defiant and disciplined in not giving away soft frees. Sarsfield were a very fit team and got on loads of ball but just did not lay it of as good as the Westport girls. The final score was Westport 3-4 Sarsfield 1-3 , , On Saturday 23 first match at 10am against St. Conleths of Offaly, this game started with a fast pace with Westport controlling the ball for the first five minutes but failed to do any serious damage on the score board.  St.Conleths had some very fine moves up the left side of the pitch which resulted with several scores against Westport, the final score in this game Westport 2-1 St.Conleths 5-4. , , Changes were made for the 3rd game with Róisín Hogan and Dearbhla Mc Garry coming into the backline and Zoe Burke moving out to midfield while Ciara Moran slipped into centre half forward. Westports 3rd game with the new line out was poetry in motion; this one was against Kilmurray Ibrickane of Clare. Westport played such fine football, some on lookers commented on how they seemed to know what to do at all times and that, they really had a mind of their own. Excellent play by all players with all forwards really on their game finished with the score Westport 1-10 Kilmurray-Ibrickane 1-01 The team wish Zoë Burke a speedy recovery after suffering a break in the closing minutes of our last game. Zoë you will be missed for our up coming Championship.               , , Westport finished joint first in the group and didnt qualify because of score difference., This is the first time that Westport progressed so far in this competition. Who knows maybe next year they will go all the way. They are no doubt a team to watch out for in the future, the club is proud of their achievements to date and wish them well in the up coming Championship., Feile Team 2012: Róisín Carney, Aoibheann Lally, Lisa Scahill, Dearabhla Mc Garry, Catherine Walsh, Jessica Ryan, Zoë Burke, Sarah Hogan, Roisin Hogan, Lisa Smith, Ciara Moran, Saoirse Ludden, Emily Costello, Niamh OGrady, Rebecca Sammon, Sarah Lavelle, Sharon Cawley, Celine ODonnell, Katie McLoughlin, Chloe Staunton, Lily Muldowney, Shauna Keane, Nicole McGuire, Muireann Cawley.,  , , ,
