O’Mara Cup v Hollymount
Garrymore 0-11 Hollymount/Carramore 0-11
Garrymore took on Hollymount/Carramore in Garymore’s opening game of the O’Mara Cup last Sunday Morning; the game was played in very challenging conditions in Hollymount but still made for an enjoyable game. Both sides never let up throughout the game with never more than two points separating the sides. This game was down to be Garrymore’s second game of the group but for an unplayable pitch in Garrymore last week, the game against Kilmaine was called off. This was Jack Grimes first chance to see his side in action this year after he took on the role of manager in early January after John Nally’s departure. Garrymore took the initiative with Brian Lynskey getting the opening point of the game after four minutes. This was the only point in the game in which Garrymore lead, Hollymount/Carramore responded three minutes later with a point and carried on with two further points until Garrymore responded with two from Sean Golden and Jamie Burke on 10 and 11 Minutes respectively. Brian Walsh, Jimmy Killeen and Lynskey again added further scores for Garymore but still found themselves behind at half time 0-8 to 0-6. The second half began at a slower pace with Garrymore getting the opening score again after nine minutes from a Jimmy Killeen free. Killeen, Garrymore’s only scorer in the second half pointed a minute later to draw the teams level again 0-8 to 0-8. Hollymount/Carramore got to grip with the game again and went two points ahead with ten minutes to go. Killeen with a free brought it back to one with five minutes to go before the sides traded further scores. With that Garry found themselves behind by a point going into injury time and pushing a lot of players forward, they were rewarded with their effort as wing forward Killeen fired over the final score of the game to take a share of the spoils in Hollymount.
