Ladies Under 16 A Championship County Final  & Minor A Championship – Semi Final

Under 16 A Championship County Final (Moy Davitts 01-12 V Westport 05-08)
Westport headed off for their 3rd Title last Wednesday & came home smiling. They were up against Moy Davitts so they knew it wouldn’t be an easy task, Laura Keane was the first to get Westport off the mark with a goal & a point, Tara Hastings added her 2 points, and before the half time whistle there was a goal from Niamh McNea & a point from Ellen Moran, leaving Westport a point down at half time. There were 4 points apiece scored in the 2nd half, one from Laura Keane & Tara Hastings putting 3 over the bar but it was the goals got & saved that made the difference for Westport with some excellent saves from Goalie Laura Fitzgerald & 2 got from Tara Hastings & one from Nicola O’Malley. Westport were 8 points clear in the end. Player of the match went to Tara Hastings. Westport made some noise heading home with their biggest fans in Convoy behind them & celebrated in the Mill Times Hotel. Well done to all the girls & management, all the hard work has paid off.

Mayo Under 16
Good Luck to the Mayo Under 16 Team & Management, as they head off to Banagher Co. Offaly to face Cork in the 16A Shield All Ireland Final. Westport have 4 girls on the panel Nicola O’Malley, Becky Gavin, Mary Duffy & Lauren Burke.

Minor A Championship – Semi Final (St Brigids 06-10 V Westport 03-07)
Things didn’t go well for the Westport minor team on August 15th, They travelled down to Lacken on a very wet evening, between that & the long grass Westport didn’t really get into the game, they made a better effort in the 2nd half but it was just too late.
