Kiltaine 2-08  Westport 1-12

Westport got their championship campain off to a flyer on Sunday last with a 1 point win over Kiltaine in Bangor.  Westport got off to a slow start going 3 points down after 10 minutes.  But westport got back into the game with a fisted goal from Phil Keegan and points from Damien Keane, Stephen Brodrick and Lee Keegan gave Westport a one point lead at half time Westport 1-07 Kiltaine 1-06.  Westport started the stronger in the 2nd half and pulled 3 points clear with 15 minutes to go, but Kiltaine never gave up but with 5 minutes to go Kiltaine were awarded a penalty,  Kiltaine full foward Ultan Corrigan stood up to take the penalty but Westport keeper Tom Higgins dived to his left to pull off a good save.  one minute into injury time Kiltaine did find the back of the net to put a point between the two teams.  But Westport held on after 6 minutes of injury time to deservally take the 2 points.  Westport team Tom Higgins 0-01, Brian Higgins, Thadty Gavin, Dessie Keane, Liam Joyce, Lee Keegan 0-01, James McHale, Kevin Keane 0-01, Dermot O Connor, Martin Gill, Damien Keane 0-06, Eamon Walsh, Stephen Brodrick 0-02, Phil Keegan 1-00, Rory Connolly 0-01.
